Essential Oils are something of a misnomer. Essential oils are aromatic and volatile chemicals within certain aromatic flowers, fruits, or herbs. Essential oils are very complex, some have anti-viral, antiviral, and antibacterial agents, while others are beneficial as antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, digestive, expectorant, and many other healing qualities.
It is important to find a source that deals in quality oils and uses organic plants when available. The production of the oils is also important. Some of the methods of obtaining essential oils can be extracted by steam distillation, solvent extraction, enfleurage or CO2 extraction.
Essential Oils can be diffused, used as sprays, as an oral or body application. Essential oils can be used on animals, but if unfamiliar with essential oil, it is best to seek guidance from a veterinarian who is familiar with oils, aromatherapists, or those who represent quality essential oil companies.
